YWIB Ambassadors

Inspiring young minds

About the program

Young Women In Bio (YWIB) launched the YWIB Ambassador program in 2020 for students interested in championing and supporting the organization’s efforts to create educational and leadership opportunities in STEM for young women. Each school year, YWIB welcomes approximately 20 students to the new class of Ambassadors.

Our 2026-2027 YWIB Ambassador applications will be open in early May 2026. All applicants will receive an automated response confirming their submission. Notifications to all applicants whether accepted or not will be sent by August 2026.

If you have any questions, reach out to us at ywib@womeninbio.org

Application Tips

The YWIB Ambassador program is an opportunity for students to grow as leaders, build confidence, and inspire the next generation of women in STEM. If you are passionate about science, curious about leadership, and excited to make an impact in your community, we encourage you to apply.

Use the tips alongside this page to prepare a thoughtful, authentic application that reflects your voice and your potential.

Ask for references early
Choose someone who can speak to your work ethic, character, and interest in science. Share: what YWIB Ambassadors is; why you want to apply; your goals
Set up your Reviewr account ASAP
Once the application goes live, create your account and add your references’ email addresses right away. Giving your references plenty of time can make the process smoother for everyone.
Draft essays outside the application
Draft your responses in Google Docs or Word first. This gives you space to think, revise, and make sure your writing is clear before submitting.
Show your impact
Impact does not have to be big to matter. Small moments of leadership and initiative matter too. Maybe you helped a classmate, contributed to a project, started something at school, or took the lead in a meaningful way.
Use your own voice
We want to get to know YOU! While brainstorming tools can be helpful, your final application should reflect your own voice, experiences, and perspective. The strongest applications feel authentic and personal.
Be specific
Avoid generic responses. Instead of saying you love science, tell us what specifically interests you. Maybe it is a class, a science fair project, a question you have always wondered about, or a challenge you want to help solve.
Do not undersell yourself
Many great applicants minimize what they have done. Be confident and honest about your role. It is okay to clearly say, “I led,” “I organized,” “I created,” or “I solved.”
Review before you submit
Take time to reread your application before you hit submit. Make sure your answers are complete, polished, and true to who you are.
