As a girl, a brave WIB member dreamt of going to America one day to become a professional and make an impact globally. Why America? Freedom and opportunity for women. When she first arrived in America, she faced many challenges: language barriers, visa issues, and cultural stereotypes. She also found many rewarding opportunities open to women. But there was another side to America: glass ceilings, old boys’ clubs, and discrimination. She ignored these things, worked hard, enjoyed open discussions, expressed herself freely, and made friends through work in America. Some of her bosses did not know how to deal with international women and were unsupportive, but she also met great mentors, supervisors, and career coaches. She found being honest and getting support from people are not weaknesses but rather strengths in America.
It is time to share experiences and develop networks to make RTP a more welcoming place for international women. Come hear WIB members Jaleh Abedini and Conchita Jimenez-Gonzalez speak about their journeys of coming to America and establishing their careers. Advocates Dana Lebo and Alison Church will provide resources and there will be a special networking opportunity to celebrate our international WIB members!
