Join WIB Capital Region for our annual Mentorship, Advisors, Peers, and Sponsorship (MAPS) event!

At every stage of your career, there are countless benefits that can be obtained from mentorship, and that are reaped by both mentors and mentees. Come find out more about mentorship in general, as well as the mentorship opportunities included in your WIB membership, at this interactive event hosted by MaxCyte. We will have networking, sips, nibbles, and lots of information.

Ofelia Olivero, Ph.D., Chief of Intramural Diversity Workforce Branch Center for Cancer Training at NCI, will present on the topic of mentoring at every career stage and peer mentoring, and lead a hands-on activity related to these topics.

There will be a raffle for two prizes: chocolate and a certificate to attend  one future WIB event for free!

Speaker Bio

Ofelia Olivero, Ph.D., ATS

Dr. Olivero obtained her Ph.D. in cytogenetics in Argentina and joined the National Cancer Institute in 1987. Her research showed that one of the drugs used in AIDS therapy was a transplacental carcinogen in mice. Working as a Senior Staff Scientist in the Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics at NCI she authored and co-authored more than 75 scientific articles, more than 180 submissions to conferences, book chapters and the book “Interdisciplinary mentoring in Sciences”.

She has been the reviewer of the Office of Women’s Health, US Food and Drug Administration, and the National Toxicology Program, Chair of the Executive Board of the Genetic Toxicology Association, Past President of the Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society and Councilor of the Society of Toxicology. She is the recipient of the NIH “Game Changer” award, for her efforts to increase Diversity in the Workforce. She lives in Maryland with her husband and her three daughters.
