Since 2014, Jenna Swan has served in Patient Advocacy at Retrophin, a biopharmaceutical company headquartered in San Diego that focuses on identifying, developing and delivering life-changing therapies to people living with rare diseases. In this role, Ms. Swan is the Company’s lead point of contact to build and maintain collaborative relationships with foundations, nonprofits and patient advocacy groups within the rare disease community. She serves as the patient “voice” in strategy meetings and patient-facing programs across the Company’s promising pipeline and commercial portfolio.
Kathy Machuzak, Associate Director Patient Advocacy, Retrophin
Ms. Machuzak is a healthcare executive with experience in advocacy and marketing for big and medium-sized pharmaceutical companies, advertising and patient education. Her advocacy roles in pharma include the ophthalmology, rheumatoid arthritis and rare tumor oncology therapeutic areas. Ms. Machuzak has recently joined Retrophin as Associate Director, Patient Advocacy, and is responsible for developing and executing advocacy strategies and programs for patients with rare kidney diseases.
Patricia Wood, President, NBIA Disorders Association
Patricia Wood is founder and president of the NBIA Disorders Association. She’s also living proof that nothing motivates a parent like a sick child.Her daughter, Kimberly, who has idiopathic NBIA, was just 10 when Wood, frustrated by a lack of help and resources for families affected by NBIA, started the organization in 1996. She was determined that no others be forced to take the journey alone.
Kathryn Croskrey, Executive Director and Regional Leader, Alzheimer’s Association
Katie is the Executive Director of the San Diego/Imperial Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Her responsibilities include managing fundraising activities, program delivery, and advocacy in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Katie’s career focus has been on building organizational capacity. A native Southern Californian and graduate of UC San Diego, Katie has spent the last 11 years serving national voluntary health organizations in San Diego. From 2005-2012 Katie served as the Executive Director for the American Diabetes Association – Greater San Diego Chapter. Most recently, from 2012-2015 she served as the Division Vice President for the Western Division of the American Diabetes Association.
Jimmy Jackson, Sr Vice President and Chief Policy Officer, Biocom
Jimmy Jackson is the Senior Vice President and Chief Policy Officer for Biocom. In this role, he oversees government affairs, policy development and policy related programming for Biocom, as well as direct management and active participation in Biocom’s Sacramento portfolio. In his time at Biocom, the scope of the government affairs department has expanded tremendously, now having significant presences at the federal, state and local level. Jackson’s almost three decades in or around government in San Diego and California has lent itself to many longstanding relationships with policymakers, while his decade plus at Biocom has given the organization a unique stability and focus in its government affairs department at all levels.
