WIB-Philadelphia will be joining forces with the Association of Women in Science (AWIS) to hear from Dr. Sarah Millar, about the advancement of women in biomedical research and academic medicine. We look forward to sharing cocktails and hors d’oeuvres with you as we host our first joint event with AWIS.


Speaker Biographies

Dr. Sarah Millar is an Albert M. Kligman Professor in Dermatology II at the Perelman School of Medicine at UPenn. She has received her bachelors in (Biochemistry) from Cambridge University, U.K., and her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology University of London, U.K., 1987. Her research focuses on understanding cell-cell signaling mechanisms controlling development, stem cell function and regeneration of the epidermis and organs such as hair follicles, mammary glands, taste papillae and teeth that arise from embryonic ectoderm (ectodermal appendages). Dr. Millar has numerous publications in her research area, and in 2016 she was awarded the 2016 FOCUS Award for the Advancement of Women in Medicine which recognizes a faculty member at Penn Medicine, male or female, whose outstanding efforts and achievements have promoted the career success, leadership, and overall quality of life for Penn women in academic medicine.
