Pittsburgh’s Outstanding Women Entrepreneurs Rally (P.O.W.E.R) is an annual celebration of the contribution local women are making to life sciences and healthcare. Our fifth annual P.O.W.E.R. event, P.O.W.E.R. 2018, showcases an emerging trend in healthcare – Immunotherapy. Immunotherapies aim to harness the power of our immune system to treat and cure disease via cellular therapies, vaccines, antibodies and much more. Our speakers will share how immunotherapies are shaping the fields of cancer, transplantation, and others, right here in Pittsburgh.

Five successful Pittsburgh scientists and sector leaders will discuss the latest innovations and developments related to immunotherapy. After brief presentations from each of our speakers, our audience is encouraged to ask questions for an engaging panel discussion.

Mariel Shlomchik, Business Analyst at UPMC Enterprises, provides an overview and a business perspective to immunotherapy, as she assesses business opportunities for the Immune Transplant and Therapy Center of UPMC.

Anuradha Ray, Ph.D., Professor of Immunology and Endowed Chair in Lung Immunology at the University of Pittsburgh, provides a perspective from immunotherapy opportunities in asthma.

Diana M. Metes, M.D., Professor of Surgery and Immunology at the Starzl Transplantation Institute, provides a clinical perspective on how manipulation of the immune system can minimize transplantation rejection and reviews the clinical trials underway.

Yana Najjar, M.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, provides an immunotherapy perspective on melanoma.

Nicole Butteri, PharmD, Immunoscience Medical Science Liaison, provides a pharmaceutical perspective to current immunotherapies.

The P.O.W.E.R of Immunotherapy will present cutting-edge research and emerging therapies followed by a discussion of how harnessing the immune system is allowing us to redefine treatment approaches across many diseases.
