Women In Bio – San Francisco Bay Area Chapter organized a seminar by Toby Freedman, author of Career Opportunities in Biotechnology and Drug Development, on April 23, 2015. 70 enthusiastic women took part in the event organized at the UC San Francisco Mission Bay campus in conjunction with UCSF Women in Life Sciences (WiLS). Amanda Mason, WIB SF Bay Area Program Committee member and UCSF student, made opening remarks in support of the benefits of WIB membership and introduced Toby Freedman. Toby gave a very interesting seminar which included an overview of the many career options in life sciences, and how different careers compare in terms of work/life balance and other factors. Additionally, Toby spoke about practical steps to take while in academia to assist in the transition to a rewarding career in life sciences industry. Attendees of the event commented that “Toby was very engaging and the information provided was quite helpful” and that “The seminar demonstrated well the large possibilities of careers in industry.” Special thanks to all volunteers, attendees, service staff, and UCSF WILS for making this event a great success.
