Posted By Breezy Lachance, Tuesday, June 25, 2019

On September 23, 2015, WIB-Seattle Metro held the first in a three part series on Career Development. September launched the series with “Stories from Working Entrepreneurs and Intrapreneurs,” where members heard inspiration from a panel of women who are currently in the process of--or have been there--from an entrepreneurial standpoint. Our panelists included Heather Franklin, President and CEO at Blaze Bioscience, Inc.; Leen Kawas, CEO at M3 Biotechnology; Lizza Miller, CEO and Co-founder at DatSTAT; and Ingrid Pultz, President and Founder of PvP Biologics.

Tidbits of wisdom from our panel included:

- Discover what you don’t like and change fast, take the risk to follow your passion
- Learn what you don’t know
- To get over challenges, talk to people, be really honest, and find someone smarter and more experienced than you
- Play the role, bluff if you have to and read about it later
- Starting something is serious business, have some fun
- Fail fast and move on
- Do it your way, you’re going to make it happen, be yourself
- Don’t quit

WIB-Seattle: Becoming a Better Influencer, April 21, 2015

Posted By Breezy Lachance, Tuesday, June 25, 2019

On April 21, 2015, WIB-Seattle presented “Becoming a Better Influencer: Persuading with Ease and Getting Results” with Shari Storm, author of Motherhood is the New MBA, and owner of Category 6 Consulting. Every workplace can be stressful, and in times of change and uncertainty, the stress levels can go into overdrive. Shari showed how tips and techniques that are successful in families can also be successful in the office. How do you get your kids to do their homework, or clean up after themselves? Turn the activity into a game, and then reward the outcome. How do you get co-workers to adopt a new process or procedure? Present it as a challenge- describe the thought process that is behind the new procedure so they understand the motivation of the changes, and then make small changes and gauge the reaction. Change is a process, so orchestrate small changes to let everyone get used to new ideas. When the goal is achieved, don’t forget to Celebrate! Ring the cowbell!
