On April 20, 2015, Women In Bio-Atlanta met at Macy’s to get advice on improving our professional image. Whether it is fair or not, our appearance (clothing, makeup, hairstyle, etc.) is the first thing people notice, so not dressing fashionably can negatively impact our networking performance.
Macy’s personal shopper, Andrea Warner, M.B.A., hosted the affair by directing a fashion show with five of our WIB-Atlanta members. Before the event, members, Ashley, Anne, Han, Dana, and Laura, sent Andrea their pictures and photos of the labels of their clothing. With this information, Andrea was able to pick out four professional outfits for them to wear, including purse, jewelry, and shoes.
Our members modeled these outfits at our WIB fashion show; for fun, Macy’s staff set the runway music to “Blurred Lines.” Andrea impressed us with her ability to select stylish clothing our members liked that worked well with their body type and style. Our WIB fashion models were satisfied with their personal shopper experience and later bought clothing picked out by Andrea. We also learned that this personal shopper service provided by Macy’s is free, which should be appealing to busy professional women who are short on time.
With this seminar came free samples of new products (facial creams, lipstick, perfumes, etc), a $25 gift certificate, and a Friends & Family discount. Also, two event attendees won a clutch purse in a prize drawing sponsored by Macy’s. Afterward, we had the chance to shop and get great deals on some of the new clothing styles we saw in the fashion show, while using our discount. Many indicated their likeliness to return for the personal shopper service.
