March 23, 2018 - The GCRC volunteers introduced grade 9 students of Vincent Massey Collegiate to biology through quizzes, workshops, and an interesting presentation of timeline and careers paths young students can take to achieve careers in STEM fields.
The event began with a brief history of women in the sciences displaying the dramatic difference of Marie Curie’s graduating class and what it looks like now. After a quick snack the girls split up into small groups touring the labs. Discussing proteins, DNA, and checking out cells through a microscope. The activities ended with a discussion of what the future holds for the young students. The volunteers at GCRC then kindly answered the many questions the students had over a pizza lunch.
