Many Women In Bio members are passionate about supporting the next generation of women in the sciences as they complete graduate school and postdoctoral fellowships and embark on their careers. The MAPs (Mentors, Advisors, and Peers)-University outreach programs bring together current graduate students and postdocs with WIB members in an informal setting at local universities. WIB members are encouraged to discuss career related topics and are invited to speak at as many or as few monthly meetings as they choose.
Topics have included:
- Networking 101
- writing a resume
- academia in a small college vs. research university
- non-research based careers for PhDs
- volunteering in your chosen profession
- winding career paths
- the importance of a work-life balance
