Licensing in new technology from universities, the government, foundations or other institutional licensors is often the foundation of biotech companies. Such licensing can also add value and growth potential to your established business. Entrepreneurs often have little experience with the realities of licensing technology from universities and other institutions.

Women in Bio presented a panel discussion on in-licensing that provided insight and shared their expertise on this complex topic:

• What are the standard terms and structures institutions expect in technology licenses?
• What are the special concerns of the institution, such as faculty participation, publication rights and rights to future technology, that often give rise to conflict with industry?
