International markets, human capital and societal trends all indicate that now is the time for women to fill the leadership ranks in
Corporate America. But do today's statistics show that women are well represented at the senior level? With women currently holding 14.5%
of the executive positions in F500 companies... the answer is NO.
Rebecca Shambaugh, President and CEO of SHAMBAUGH Leadership, addressed the burning business issue of why we are not seeing more women in senior executive
roles today. The real obstacles, which she cited and backed up with recent research, lie not only within traditional organizational barriers but
right below a woman's feet -- the sticky floors.
Rebecca, presented an interactive session based on Rebecca's new book (It's Not the Glass Ceiling -- It's the Sticky Floor,
McGraw-Hill, due in bookstores November 2007). Specifically, she addressed some of the most common sticky floors
(self-limiting beliefs, assumptions, and behaviors) for women, which included developing strategic relationships and capatalizing on political savvy.
She presented specific tools and techniques that you can use immediately to recharge your career, and you'll have fun in the process!
Participants also had the opportunity to network "on the spot" and engaged in cross-mentoring activities.
Finally, when participants left Rebecca's session, they actually had a plan for what to do on Monday!
In this session, Rebecca presented:
- The facts, trends and business case for women in leadership roles today
- The sticky floors -- what they are and which are stopping you
- A framework for identifying and expanding your strategic network
- Proven techniques for asking for help and taking prudent risks
- Simple tools for capitalizing on political savvy and developing executive presence.
